Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is no longer working in Somalia. In August 2013, MSF was forced to announce the closure of all of its programs in the country. Extreme attacks on MSF staff and an inability to work in an environment where these attacks were often supported and condoned by civilian leaders and armed authorities led to this decision. MSF continues to assist Somalis in the following projects around the world:

Egypt, Cairo

MSF recently opened a maternal and child health clinic in Ezbet El Haggana, an urban slum located in the East of Greater Cairo. Somali refugees in Yemen

Ethiopia, Somali Region

In the Somali region of Ethiopia MSF is working in Dolo Ado , which is home to around 3,500 people, assisting Somali refugees.MSF teams provide free basic health care, nutritional screening and measles vaccination for children under 15 years old.

Kenya, Dadaab refugee camp

MSF responsible for all healthcare in one of the camps, Dagahaley. MSF runs a one hundred bed hospital and four health posts around the camp provide which offers all levels of secondary care, including surgery, vaccinations, antenatal care, preventative and curative care and mental health care. Malta, Hal Far – Valletta

MSF currently works in the open centres in Malta. MSF provides medical and psychological support to around 3,000 people live in the centre.
